If you’d like to be part of the Great Aussie Hike but long distance walking isn’t your thing, then you can still come and be part of the fun by filling one of our volunteer roles.

It is our aim to become the friendliest, most supporting event our participants have ever been part of. We therefore need friendly and caring locals to help make our teams feel welcome and supported during their journey on course. The only prerequisite is to have a huge smile, a big heart and want to help!

That is great news! Register your interest with us by clicking here and we will be in touch within a few days.

We have received your submission and will be in touch within the next couple of days to chat further. We are volunteers too, so will get to you as fast as we can. 🙂

Not at all, we welcome everyone. We just need you to be friendly and caring towards our participants and know how to give someone a huge smile.

There is no formal training for these positions, as the primary focus is on welcoming and supporting our walkers. We will send you some written information to help you prepare. There will also be experienced event staff around to help you on the day.

You will be given details once we have confirmed your location and shift time. Please let us know if you are unable to make your own way to the location and we will see if we can arrange transportation for you.

Absolutely! Bring your friends and family along – the more the merrier.

Primarily we need volunteers to help make our participants feel welcome and encouraged along their journey to the finish line. Some of our teams are walking 43km, so they need as much support as we can muster.

You will be given a location along the trail where we would ask you to sit/stand and provide support to participants as they pass by. Tell them what a great job they are doing and to keep on walking! Also, make sure they safely cross the road if they are getting tired and not checking for traffic properly. You are welcome to bring a deck chair, so don’t think you need to stand for the entire shift.

Your role will be to welcome teams to the rest stop, help participants find the toilets, water bottle refill and so forth. Wish teams good luck as they return to the course and show them which direction to go in.

We understand things come up. Please let us know as soon as you are aware you are no longer able to help so that we have time to find someone else to fill your shift by phoning 0493 131 426.

Wear enclosed comfortable shoes and weather appropriate clothes (think if you will need sunnies, hat, beanie, gloves, rain jacket, umbrella). Make sure you are comfortable and warm.

There will be some food for volunteers depending upon shift times and length. We encourage volunteers to bring their own drink bottles.

Everyone can be part of the fun in some shape or form. If you are under the age of 18 we will need you to volunteer with an adult. Make sure you get in touch and let us know about your circumstances so that we can find the perfect role for you to play.

Check out all the information in the questions above, as you may find exactly what you’re looking for on this page. We are also happy to answer any questions or provide more information. You can get in contact with us by phoning 0493 131 426.
