TEAM FUNDRAISING

NO COMPULSORY FUNDRAISING OR FUNDRAISE FOR A CAUSE IMPORTANT TO YOU

TO FUNDRAISE OR NOT

IT’S COMPLETELY UP TO YOU

2020 has been a tough year. For many it has been the toughest.

Our program focuses on building a support network for participants as they develop bonds within their team, while strengthening mental well-being through exercise in nature. Fundraising is not our primary goal. And we certainly do not want it to be a restriction or burden for any of our teams. Even less would we want to create any stress.

Consequently, there will be no compulsory fundraising component to The Great Aussie Hike 2021. Instead, our focus will be on supporting the East Gippsland community who have gone through drought, bushfires and pandemic. In keeping with our motto of looking after our mates, we will encourage participants to support these local businesses as much as possible. Stay in their towns, buy food from their stores, fill your car with fresh produce to take home, bring family and friends to holiday while you complete the walk.

OUR SUGGESTED CHARITIES

For those who feel they do have the capacity to do more, an endurance walking event is a great opportunity to raise much needed funds. It is a pretty impressive challenge that you will conquer, with your friends and family often happy to acknowledge this by donating to your chosen cause.

There is no compulsory amount of money you have to raise and who the money is raised for is completely up to you. This could be a charity organisation, a local sporting or community club, or an individual or family that may be doing it tough right now.

If you are unsure but still want to use this opportunity to fundraise, we suggest having a look at our charity partners below.

ST VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY VICTORIA

The St Vincent de Paul Society is an organisation with a long and rich history of serving people in need by providing practical assistance and friendship. People are at the heart of everything we do, and across Victoria, our 13,000+ volunteers are building compassionate communities by helping make ends meet with putting food on tables, heating homes in winter, educating young minds, listening in times of crisis and much, much more. Among other services, Vinnies continues to work directly with communities in East Gippsland impacted by the bushfires by providing financial, material and emotional support.

FOODBANK VICTORIA

We would encourage you to consider supporting Foodbank Victoria – an organisation who provided on the ground support during the bushfires, ensuring food hampers were delivered to needy families. Demand for food relief across Victoria has increased at an alarming and unprecented rate. Your support will see people within your local community directly benefit, with every $1 providing two meals.

OZHARVEST

At OzHarvest, we are committed to making positive changes in everything we do. We have been fighting food waste for 16 years through our food rescue, education programs and sustainability work. Food waste costs Australia $20 billion a year, while five million people experience food insecurity every year. Feeding hungry people and stopping good food from going to waste underpins everything we do. We rescue and redistribute food to those who need it most, especially during times of increased need.
