THE GREAT AUSSIE HIKE EMBRACES
THIS GREAT AUSSIE SPIRIT
2020 HAS BEEN A TOUGH YEAR
The mental wellbeing of many Australians has been challenged more than ever before.
OUR MATES ARE STRUGGLING AND WE NEED TO HELP THEM
The Great Aussie Hike has been specifically developed to utilise evidence based treatment for depression and anxiety using exercise in nature, goal setting and human connection. We are encouraging great Aussies to put together teams of 4-6 people – friends, family, neighbours, work colleagues, team mates – to form a strong support network utilising our three step program.
CONNECT & MOVE
Form a team. Start planning. Stay connected.
Decide as a team how many time a week everyone will go for a walk outside. Distance is not the focus.
Stay accountable – post a selfie when out walking to your team chat.
Check in & encourage each other.
WALK & TALK
Once restrictions lift, start planning to catch up in pairs/team 1-2 times per week.
Use our training program to start working towards your team’s chosen challenge.
Meeting team mates in person for face-to-face catch ups is an important part of this step.
The purpose of the event is to have a goal that you can work towards and achieve as a team.
The sense of accomplishment as you all cross the finish line together will be a fantastic reward.
It’s also a wonderful way to support the bushfire affected communities.

NO COMPULSORY FUNDRAISING
Times are tough, and fundraising is even harder. We don’t want this to restrict anyone from participating, so there will be no compulsory fundraising component to The Great Aussie Hike 2021.
Instead we are focused on:
- developing long lasting health benefits for participants.
- supporting small businesses in the bushfire communities.
Teams are welcome to fundraise for a cause important to them or support our charity partner, Foodbank Victoria.
A MESSAGE FROM THE EVENT TEAM
We are continually adapting our program and event to be safe for both participants and staff in a COVID-19 world. These plans will continue to evolve based on advice from relevant authorities, including the Victorian Chief Medical Officer. Due to the nature of the event, having the ability to trickle teams onto the track one at time and a 7 month timeline, we are optimistic that the walk will go ahead as scheduled. Should this not be the case, the walk will be moved to a late October 2021 and the training program will be amended to provide support for participants throughout the winter months.
